1965 Mustang Hardtop
The 1965 Mustang Hardtop was the start of something incredible When Ford released this historical car they created an American original that would stand the test of time. The 1965 Mustang is regarded as the first generation of Mustang.
The first-generation Ford Mustang was manufactured by Ford from March 1964 until 1973. The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobile known as the pony car. The Mustang’s styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of imitators.
Although it is not as powerful and way simpler than its later models it has a genuine style and stance that makes it loved by automotive enthusiasts all over. It was initially introduced as a hardtop and convertible with the fastback version put on sale in August 1964. 2003-04 Mustang Mach 1
The Ford Mustang Mach 1 is a performance-oriented option package of the Ford Mustang, originally introduced by Ford in August 1968 as a package for the 1969 model year. The Mach 1 title adorned performance oriented Mustang offerings until the original retirement of the moniker in 1978.
As part of a Ford heritage program, the Mach 1 package returned in 2003 as a high performance version of the New Edge platform. Visual connections to the 1969 model were integrated into the design to pay homage to the original. This generation of the Mach 1 was discontinued after the 2004 model year, with the introduction of the fifth-generation Mustang.

1979 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car
The Mustang hadn’t been selected to pace Indy since 1964. Three official pace cars were created for track duty. These cars looked identical to the replicas available for sale in every way except for a T-Top, (fitted by Cars and Concepts) an option that wouldn’t be available from the factory until the 1981 Mustang.
They used specially prepared 5.0L V8 engines modified by Roush Industries using a Holley carb, aluminum high-rise intake, and 351 Windsor heads. The engine breathed through 1.84 intake / 1.54 exhaust valves with 289 HiPo springs and the 1970 Boss 302 solid lift cam.
Internals included 1969 Boss 302 connecting rods, forged-steel crankshaft, and forged aluminum TRW pistons with Speed Pro rings. All pace-duty cars used modified C-4 automatic transmissions. 1978 Mustang II King Cobra
The second-generation Ford Mustang is a pony car that was manufactured by Ford from 1973 until 1978. It was introduced in showrooms during September 1973, in coupe and hatchback versions for the 1974 model year, in time for the 1973 oil crisis. In 1978, the “King Cobra” became available.
This was a limited edition version with 4,313 units produced. It featured a deep air-dam, stripes, and a “Pontiac Trans-Am style” cobra snake decal on the hood. The King Cobra was available only with the V8 to help bolster the car’s performance image.With that, the 1978 Mustang II King Cobra is without a doubt among the classic Mustangs.

1969-1970 Mach 1 Cobra Jet Mustang
1969 was the benchmark year for Ford Mustang in its proliferation of performance names and engines. No less than 6 factory performance Mustang models were available (GT, Boss 302, Boss 429, Shelby GT350, Shelby GT500 and the Mach 1). Additionally, seven variations of V-8s were available in the ’69–’70 models; most of these also available in the new Mach 1.
Due to the Mach 1’s success, the GT model was discontinued after 1969 following poor sales of 5,396 units – versus the 72,458 sales for the Mach 1. The Mach 1’s original recipe was simple: It started with a V8 powered ‘Sportsroof’ body and added numerous visual and performance enhancing items such as matte black hood treatment with hood pins, hood scoop (including optional Shaker scoop), competition suspension, chrome pop-open gas cap, revised wheels with Goodyear Polyglas tires, chrome exhaust tips (except 351W 2V), deluxe interior, unmissable livery and dealer optional chin spoiler, rear deck spoiler, and rear window louvers (SportSlats).
Ford kept the Mach 1 alive into 1970 and little changed other than the visuals. Interestingly, the Mach 1 nameplate could possibly make a return in 2018. If released, it will be powered by a souped-up version of the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, and is likely to slot between the regular Mustang GT and the more powerful Shelby GT350.
1968 Shelby GT500KR
Beginning in April 1968, Ford began factory installing a version of the 428 engine known as the “Cobra Jet”. The G.T. 500 was subsequently known as The Cobra G.T. 500 KR. The initials KR stood for “King of the road.” Ford rated the Cobra jet at 335 horsepower (250 kW), but with 440 foot-pounds of torque at 3400 RPM, the horsepower was considered significantly underreported.
Shelby’s KR engine was left stock adding die-cast aluminum valve covers with “Cobra Lemans” to note Ford’s FE engine family victory over Ferrari at Le Mans in 1966 and 1967. The 1968 Shelby GT500KR is one of the best-driving, best-performing Shelbys of all time.
